Generating FDS fire simulation input using IFC-based Building Information Model Generating FDS fire simulation input using IFC-based Building Information Model

Input document (*.xml):

Usage:
Input: An XML(1) document generated by ifcSTEP-Parser(2) using the IFC(3) SPF(4) data (IFC2x2).
Browse: Browse the local files storage and select an input XML document to work with.
Parse: Parse the XML document and display all elements and their attributes.
Brief: Parse the XML document and display a summary of relevant elements and attributes.
Geometry: Parse the XML document and display a schematic building plan.
FDS: Parse the XML document and construct the input data for FDS (version 5.0).

Notes:
1. XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is an open standard markup language for documents containing structured information (*.xml file extension) in simple text format developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) for cross-platform information interchange.
2. ifcSTEP-Parser is an application developed by Dr. Michael Spearpoint at the University of Canterbury to parse the ifc-based SPF data and generate a fire engineering related intermediate XML document, which is the required input to ifcSTEP-FDS.
3. IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) is an open standard specifications developed by International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI) for AEC/FM (Architectural, Engineering, Construction and Facilities Management) building information model exchange.
4. SPF (STEP Physical File, *.ifc file extension) is ISO 10303-21 international standard for product data exchange. STEP is an abbreviation for Standard for the Exchange of Product model data.
5. FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) fire simulation model developed by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The generated input file is compatible with FDS version 5.0
